Type Locality and Naming

Along the Kyzyltal and Kyzylata rivers, Pre-Tashkent Chul. G.A. Belenky, 1966 (96, pp.99-100). Stratotype in the headwaters of the Kelif River, on the right bank of the Kyzylata River, in the foothills of the Karzhantau range.

Synonym: Kyzylatinskaya Formation, Кызылатинская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Consists of two formations: variegated and pink. Lower formation - variegated, spotted, bluish-green, reddish-brown sandstones and siltstone (aleurolites); upper formation - pink sandstones and siltstone (aleurolites). Thickness 14-350m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lies unconformably on the Azatbash Fm or transgressively on the Paleozoic

Upper contact

It is overlain with erosion by the Akdachin Fm.

Regional extent

Pre-Tashkent Chul, foothills of the Chatkal and Karzhantau ranges, in the Tashkent depression, revealed by drilling. Along A., - to the Albian and is correlated with the Kyzylpilyal Fm of South Ferghana. Along O.A. Fedorenko et al. (478), corresponds to the Kekpenkaldyk Fm of the North Kyzylkum

Contains ostracods - Cypridea inornata Peck., Timiriasevia costata Gal., T. simakovi Mand., charophyte algae - Atopachara trivolvis Peck.
